In recent years the geometries of the bikes, especially those that wink at the descent are varying a lot, one of the changes that affect the integrity of the medium is the height of the bottom bracket.

All manufacturers tend to decrease the distance that divides the bottom bracket from the ground for obvious driving reasons due to the movement of masses lower and lower, making the bike more stable and manageable.
While riding finds great benefits from it, it's not uncommon to see rock marks on the chainrings and frame, the bashguard prevents just that.
